About

We are a group of residents who want to fight to protect our environment and health from inappropriate development.

How would you feel if you were exposed to excessive noise from an open air night show operating nearly  every weekend of your summer, sometimes on consecutive weekend nights, with events running from 9.30pm until 11pm with over 3,000 cars and buses outside your home with queing traffic from around 6pm to 8.30pm and 11.20pm to 1am with proposals to add considerably more car parking resulting in even more disruption and impact on local residents. The period from 11pm is classed as the night time period and has a high level of protection against noise as it is our core sleep hours. This development has resulted in night time noise. The current environment is largely dark and noise free apart from the road network which is also quiet at night. Proposals are to surround a village with parking, one car park already being used without planning consent from early evening until the early hours of the morning. The areas in question are beautiful fields full of wildlife, nocturnal animals and silent dark areas from dusk to dawn in the countryside and the setting for very important historic heritage. This is a countryside which is of sufficient value that it is classed as high landscape value and historic environment which merits EIA regulation protection.

Would you worry if your only means of getting in and out of your village and town could be grid locked with over 3,000 cars/ buses, with potential for considerably more with priority emergency vehicles being delayed and where you could not get in and out of your village to undertake normal every day activities? Would you worry if your nearby town became grid locked and chaotic before and after night shows, you could not access medical care quickly, shops and essential services?

Would you like this next to you nearly every weekend of your late spring, summer and early autumn period, between 6.00pm and 1.00am in the morning (evidence this year)? Imagine if you could not open your windows, sit in your garden due to noise and traffic fumes or get in and out of your village and town.  Imagine listening to buses idling, cars waiting to get out of car parks opposite your bedroom window and loud chit chat from excited show goers walking very close to your home when you and your children are tucked up in bed.

How could you sit out and enjoy a summers night in your garden listening to or facing queues of traffic and people wandering around, engines idling and breathing traffic fumes associated with over 3,000 vehicles (proposed to rise significantly) arriving and departing.

Picture the environment that you value now which is quiet, dark and a scenic peaceful river valley, an area of landscape value with otters, bats, rare insects, beautiful highway verge flowers and your heritage, a fairy tale town hall, town conservation area, castle and parkland and an important setting for a Roman site diminished by development.
